Philip II
He was King of England and Ireland and pretender to the kingdom of France. As heir to the Duchy of Burgundy, he was lord of the Seventeen Provinces of the Netherlands. Known in Spanish as "Philip the Prudent" (Felipe el Prudente), his empire included territories in every continent then known to Europeans and during his reign Spain was the foremost Western European power.
The video below shows multiple pictures of Philip the Second of Spain, and multiple pictures of him with other people like the Queen, and many other men.
Philip II, King of Spain, May 21st 1527. He was the son of the emperor Charles V, and of his wife Isabella of Portugal, who were first cousins. King Philip II reigned over Spain from 1554-1598 and this coincided with the peak of Spanish greatness. Never before or since would Spain wield such power around the world from across south and central America to Spain, north Africa, the Low Countries and southern Italy to the Philippines in the Far East. A devout Catholic he was a hero of the Counter reformation raging in Europe in which he managed to hold back Protestant expansion. However, his most famous enterprise, the attempted invasion of England by the Spanish Armada, ended in failure.
